Photo Snack – Self Assignment

By NYIP Staff on January 14, 2015

Welcome to another NYIP Photo Snack! In this week’s video, we learn to look at the familiar in a brand new way, which is critical to expanding your skills and keeping yourself inspired.

It’s difficult to imagine photographers working every minute of every day. Sometimes it can seem like there are no jobs out there or nothing to photograph. That’s a great time to give yourself an assignment.

Follow your kids or your pet around for the day, offer to shoot a day in the life at a local business, or go someplace you’ve been a thousand times determined to see it in a new way. A self-assignment is a great way to motivate yourself to add great new photographs to your portfolio.

Want to learn how to become a photographer? The New York Institute of Photography offers nine great online photography classes that can help you improve your skills and make money with your photos.
